JUST DO IT
*Nike's logo designer was paid $2 per hour.*
[A short story 🪡]
In 1971, Carolyn Davidson designed Nike's logo for just $35 ($221 today). She was a college student.
Her brief for the logo? It must convey motion and differ from Adidas.
After designing for 17.5 hours, Carolyn came up with the 'Swoosh' âœ”ï¸ logo that conveyed motion and agility.
Although we love the 'Swoosh' logo today, Carolyn's designs were repeatedly rejected when she first made it.
In fact, she was so fed up of the rejections, that she just submitted her design and just gave up.
Finally, Nike ended up going with Carolyn's design.
12 years later, Nike boomed BIG.
Nike's owner, Knight, knew that the logo was one of the key reasons for the company's success.
As a gift to Carolyn, Knight gave her 500 shares of the company in 1983.
Today, her shares are valued at thousands of dollars!
And that's how a $35 logo turned into a million dollar success (for Carolyn and Nike).
So... what's the lesson here?
1. Rejections are natural, and happen to the best of people
2. Do the best you can, repeatedly
3. Always value your own creativity
4. JUST DO IT.
